Naim Otaky

Naim Otaky is a general surgeon on staff at VM-Med. Dr. Otaky completed his medical training at McGill University in Montreal in 1998 where he was the recipient of several academic awards and academic based bursaries. Dr. Otaky joined VM-Med during his residency in 2000 where, over a three year period, he developed his skills in breast imaging and image guided diagnostic procedures. In 2003 he completed his general surgery residency training at McGill University and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In July 2003 he joined the VM-Med group as a full time breast expert surgeon. In addition to his work at VM-Med, Dr. Otaky is a staff surgeon at the McGill University Health Center Lachine Campus and the Jean-Talon Hospital. In addition to being a member of the Royal College of Physicians, Dr. Otaky is also a member of the Collège des médecins du Québec, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Dr. Otaky has been published in several well regarded academic journals and has lectured in international breast conferences in addition to performing live surgery to an international audience of breast experts at The Breast Course in 2008.

Morris Browman

Voted as the best Radiologist in Montreal, Morris Browman is a diagnostic radiologist and Director of Medical Imaging at VM-Med since 2012. Dr. Browman received a B.Sc with honours in Neurobiology and an MD, both from McGill University. Dr Browman continued his postgraduate training in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester Mn and completed his residency in radiology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He has several publications and received the Award of Excellence for research by a resident from the Canadian Association of Radiologists in 1994 for his work on carotid ultrasound. He is board-certified in both Canada and the US and is also a member of the Collège des médecins du Québec. After 18 years in a private, hospital-based practice in New York State, he joined the VM-Med team in 2012. Dr. Browman has extensive experience in general radiology imaging, with particular expertise in breast (mammography, ultrasound, MR) and musculoskeletal imaging.

Lorraine Dontigny

Lorraine Dontigny, MD, FRCS(C) is an Obstetrician-Gynecologist on staff at VM-Med. Dr. Dontigny completed her medical training and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at l’Université de Montréal. Since 2000, she is part of the obstetrics and gynecology team of LaSalle Hospital. As part of her role on the LaSalle Hospital team, she is responsible for training medical students from various institutions including residents from McGill University’s obstetrics-gynecology program, family medicine residents from l’Université de Montréal, as well students completing their midwife studies. Dr. Dontigny is also assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at both McGill University and l’Université de Montréal.

At VM-Med Dr Dontigny consults patients in general gynecology, with a particular focus on genitourinary syndrome, as if effects postmenopausal women. She has offered MonaLisa Fractional CO2 Laser Therapy – a treatment for patients suffering from genitourinary syndrome – at the clinic since November 2016 with exceptional results. At the clinic, Dr. Dontigny also offers interdisciplinary consultations with Marie-Josée Lord, an internationally renowned physiotherapist and pioneer in the field of pelvic health physiotherapy in Canada.

Dr Gerry N. Polyhronopoulos is a general surgeon on staff at VM-Med. Dr. Polyhronopoulos completed his MD and his specialty training in general surgery, both at McGill University, and received his BSc (Cum Laude) from Boston College.

During his residency he spent an extra year on research pertaining to Experimental Surgery – for which he was awarded best paper (Basic Science) by the Canadian Association of General Surgeons – at McGill University. Dr. Polyhronopoulos is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and is a member of many professional societies including the American College of Surgeons and the Canadian Association of General Surgeons.

Dr. John R. Keyserlingk, completed his specialty training in both General Surgery and Otolaryngology at McGill, and a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. He is currently Assistant Professor of Surgery at McGill University and a member of the Department of Surgery at the Université de Montréal. He is a staff surgeon in the Divisions of General surgery, Surgical Oncology and Otolaryngology at St. Mary’s Hospital, the Department of Surgery at the Sacré-Coeur Hospital, the Division of General Surgery at the Montreal General Hospital and previously at the Department of Otolaryngology at the Royal Victoria Hospital. He is a Fellow of a number of societies including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Head and Neck Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Keyserlingk is the founder and currently the Medical Director of the Ville Marie Medical and Women’s Health Center (VM-Med) which includes the VM-Med Multidisciplinary Breast and Oncology Centers, the VM-Med Integrative Health and Wellness Center and the on-site VM-Med MRI / Radiology, PET-CT & Nuclear Imaging Centers. He is assisted by a team of physicians and radiologists who work with an on-site team of surgical, medical and radiation oncologists, as well as an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, genetic counsellors, kinesiologists and nutritionists. Together their mission is to optimize breast cancer prevention and early detection.

Dr. Keyserlingk also sits on the Board of the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC), which is composed of over 800 Breast Centers across the world, of which the VM-Med Breast Center is the first Canadian NCBC member. He also chairs the NCBC International Committee. He has taken a strong public stand on the rights of patients to have dignified access to the best technology available, and both published and presented on issues regarding breast cancer prevention and early detection.

Dr. Dawn Anderson gained her MD, research degree (BSc. Med) and completed her Internship at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg then headed west to Vancouver to undertake a Residency in General Surgery at the University of British Columbia.

She subsequently completed 5 years as a locum tenens General Surgeon in various towns across central and northern BC. Finding the idea of further academic study appealing she then came to Montreal for a 2 year fellowship in Surgical Oncology at McGill, and never left!

Dr Anderson is currently an Assistant Professor in the departments of Oncology and Surgery at McGill University, the Head of Surgical Oncology at VM-Med and the Divisional Director of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology at St. Mary’s Hospital. Her oncologic focus is breast, thyroid and colon cancer.

In addition to evaluating and operating on cancer patients she prepares and dictates the weekly review of all cancers seen at the weekly VM-Med Oncology-Pathology Rounds and also participates in the weekly Tumour Conference at St Mary’s Hospital. She is an active collaborator with her colleagues in Medical and Radiation Oncology at McGill University by, among other things, recruiting patients for multicenter research trials in breast and rectal cancer.

Cassandre Benay is a general and Endocrine Surgeon on staff at VM-Med. Dr. Benay completed his medical training at Queen’s University, and then completed his surgical training at McGill University in Montreal in 2017. He continued his training in Endocrine Surgery at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic from 2017 to 2018. Dr. Benay joined VM-Med in 2021 as an expert in General and Endocrine Surgery.

In 2017, after completing his general surgery residency training at McGill University he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In addition to his work at VM-Med, Dr. Benay is a staff surgeon at the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. In addition, Dr. Benay is also a member of the Collège des Médecins du Quebec and a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. Dr Bénay has been published in several well regarded academic journals and presented his findings at multiple international surgical conferences. He is also a contributing author in various surgical textbooks including Netter’s Surgical Anatomy and Approaches 2nd edition.

Although a general internist she has a particular interest in osteoporosis and has managed the VM-Med Osteoporosis Clinic since 2000.

Karina Bukhanov

Dr. Bukhanov is a breast radiologist and Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Imaging, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto where she has been Head of Breast Imaging for many years. She has extensive experience in digital mammography – which she introduced into Canada – as well as breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and the interventional procedures associated with each modality. She also has multiple publications on the subject of digital mammography.

Dr. Bukhanov is passionate about patient care and was instrumental in setting up the Emanuelle Gattuso Rapid Diagnosis Clinic at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Dr. Bukhanov is also a member of the Quebec College of Physicians and a radiology consultant at the VM-Med MRI Center.

Dr. Beaulieu is a Nuclear Medicine Specialist Board Certified in Québec and in Canada. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology, Radio-Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the University de Montreal. He practices nuclear medicine at Maisonneuve Rosemont Hospital, with emphasis on PET/CT.

Dr. Beaulieu also completed his fellowship training in PET imaging at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, USA, from 2001 to 2003. There, he had the opportunity to learn from world renowned experts by reading thousands of PET examinations and by performing anatomical correlations with the results of an equal number of radiological examinations, mainly CT scans and MRI examinations. During his training, he was the main investigator in a research project financed by the National Institute of Health concerning the use of a new radioactive molecule to detect prostate cancer through PET imaging. Dr. Beaulieu has an expertise with regard to the various quantification methods used in PET imaging for clinical or research purposes.

Dr. Beaulieu is author co-author of 25 articles and abstracts, mostly about PET/CT imaging. He presented the results of his research at different international nuclear medicine conferences and to several university hospital centers throughout Canada and the US.

Dr. Christian Cohade is a Nuclear Medicine Specialist Board Certified in Québec, in Canada and in the United States. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology, Radio-Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Université de Montréal. He practices nuclear medicine at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital, with emphasis on PET/CT.

Dr. Cohade completed a 2 year fellowship in PET/CT imaging at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, under the direction of Dr. Richard L. Wahl, from 2001 to 2003. He performed his fellowship and his research work with the first commercial PET/CT scanner installed in North America, in 2001, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Cohade is author and co-author of 36 articles and 57 abstracts that were published, mostly about PET and PET/CT. He presented the results of his research at international nuclear medicine and radiology conferences (Society of Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Society of North America). He serves as an Editorial Board Member of the “Journal of Nuclear Medicine”, the leading journal in that field.

Dr. Cohade’s expertise encompasses the clinical evaluation of the oncologic applications of PET and PET/CT, and of PET/CT artifacts.
