Bone scintigraphy is a very effective examination to monitor the evolution of bone metastases secondary to a cancer, or to assess the severity of osteoarthritis and arthritis.

Bone scintigraphy also allows physicians to detect lesions, even small ones such as stress fractures, and to determine the cause when the patient feels pain but the radiography shows no abnormality.
