The CT scan (also called CAT scan) produces images of different parts of the body (brain, lungs, lumbar spine, etc).
The apparatus uses an x-ray source similar to that of traditional radiography, but which generates a 3D image of the anatomical region under examination. CT scans can highlight several abnormalities that are harder to evaluate with other imaging techniques.
When dictated by the clinical information at hand, the examination can be performed with the injection of an iodine based intravenous contrast medium.
